Computers in the Kitchen? Yes!

As everyone knows, technology has come a long way in the kitchen.  People are always searching for the coolest and newest gadgets and tools that will make cooking easier.  But technology doesn’t stop there. We’ve added TVs, iPod docking stations and one growing trend seems to be the computer.  I believe that computers are great for the kitchen.  Now, computers are pricey, so you do have to be careful not to damage them.  No one wants to have cake batter slung onto the computer screen or boiled over liquids flow onto and in-between the keys.  It’s definitely best to have a work station, or keep the laptop tucked away until needed.

One of our senior designers thought it best to have a small desk in her kitchen. She customized her Victorian home with a beautiful Wood-Mode kitchen.  Her desk is home to a weather station, desk calendar, an antique mail sorter and also a small laptop.  She keeps a laptop in the kitchen for convenience to read recipes online, check out ingredients and even create grocery lists.  Although, she admits she doesn’t use the laptop to surf the internet in that part of her home, she’s glad to have carved out a little space in her kitchen and uses it daily.

Having a work station in the kitchen is growing in popularity for its convenience to a computer.

My laptop is in the kitchen, as well.  I have a computer in my office, but I don’t use it because the kitchen is where I like to be.  It’s definitely been handy for recipes and also to keep the kids close by to help with homework.  Of course, when family and friends are visiting, it’s nice to have the computer around for those pesky questions you can’t think of the answer to – about TV shows or the name of a song or what actress was in that movie… I guess you can say Google and Ask.com have become welcomed guests in my kitchen.
